Hailed by The New York Times as "one of the nation's best ballet companies," Houston Ballet is America's
fourth largest ballet company, featuring 54 dancers who have won gold and silver medals at international ballet competitions.  Founded in 1969, Houston Ballet is currently under the leadership of the dynamic Australian choreographer Stanton Welch who was named artistic director of the company in 2003.

The company performs a vast repertoire of works, ranging from the great nineteenth century classics such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker to exciting new ballets commissioned from some of the world's most prestigious contemporary choreographers, including Christopher Bruce, Glen Tetley, Jiří Kylián, Julia Adam, Natalie Weir, Lila York and Matjash Mrozewski.

Houston Ballet serves as a cultural ambassador for the city of Houston on its many international tours.  Over the last decade, Houston Ballet has performed in London, New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

The company's affiliated school, Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy, has emerged as one of America's foremost dance training institutions, producing dancers who have gone on to appear with such prestigious companies as Houston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, The Australian Ballet, Vienna State Opera Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Boston Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, San Francisco Ballet, Texas Ballet Theater, BalletMet, Memphis Ballet, State Street Ballet, Ballet Florida, Pacific Northwest Ballet and National Ballet of Canada.

Under the leadership of Stanton Welch, Houston Ballet has entered a new chapter in its rich three-decade history, thrilling audiences in Houston and across the country with Mr. Welch's edgy, forward-looking aesthetic and a company of vibrantly theatrical artists who are equally at home in classical and contemporary works.
